Alvaro is a man of great charisma and charm. His boundless energy, enthusiasm and passion for art are infectious. His demonstrations are quite breathtaking and his ability to impart his immense knowledge and pass on his skill is second to none. He has an impressionistic approach to painting and he produces a spectacle of dramatic light and colour. An outstanding teacher and a master of the art of watercolour painting.
Alvaro was born in Montevideo, Uruguay (South America) and migrated to Australia in 1983. His early interest in art was cultivated mainly by his father, who, at a very young age, sent him to the National School of Art in Montevideo and was taught by Professor Esteban Garino. He studied at the Fine Arts University, where Miguel Angel Pareja was his oil painting tutor.
Two years after arriving in Australia, he was appointed Art Director of Melbourne’s Latin American Festival and has won numerous awards. These include: The Alice Baylo Award and the American Watercolour Society prestigious High Winds Medal. The American Watercolour Society has recently honoured him with the Alfredo Guati Rojo Memorial award and the Airfloat Systems Inc Award. The Jury of Awards has included him in the 137th Annual Travel Exhibition. These are but a few of his many outstanding achievements.
In addition Alvaro has featured in many publications and writes regularly for internationally acclaimed art magazines. His book “Watercolour Painting with Passion” met with worldwide success, and more recently his DVD “Inspired Watercolours“ filmed entirely in Girona and Cadaqués by APV films has inspired artist all over the world.
Alvaro’s experience in the field of painting and teaching has won him the respect and admiration of his fellow artists and the countless students who have benefited from his tutorship and his passion for watercolour.
Demonstrations are quite breathtaking and it is a sheer delight to watch his speed of execution and the simplicity of his statements. These attributes coupled with his ability to show how to capture atmosphere and mood, create rhythm of movement and produce a well-balanced painting are the qualities that identify him worldwide as an outstanding teacher and as a master of the art of watercolour painting.
Most important of all Alvaro is a warm, kind, compassionate and considerate man.
Alvaro now happily resides in Montevideo with his lovely wife, Ana Maria, and their two sons Gaston and Calvin and travels the world painting, teaching and lecturing on the art of watercolour.
